A bioinformatics core facility at UTHSCSA has recently been established
that offers various computational resources to UT system investigators.
The website is http://www.bioinformatics.uthscsa.edu.
They support a cluster with twenty dual PIII/500 compute nodes, 2 GB
RAM each and local raid0 storage. These nodes are linked over fast ethernet.
In addition, they have 3 dual Athlon 2 GHZ/3.5GB RAM nodes with local
raid0 storage connected over gigabit ethernet. All nodes are managed
from a
quad Xeon 700 Intel 4450 master node. They offer parallel blast searching,
SAM, sequence assembly software, the GCG Wisconsin package, PAUP and
many other genomics packages to UT system users. In addition they support
various databases (oracle, mysql, postgresql) and offer local
storage. The cluster offers PBSPro/Condor scheduling and provides Linux
development environments including MPI and PVM.
Dr. Demeler's group is interested in establishing collaborations in
analytical ultracentrifugations and light scattering. For more information
