Computational Biology Software Demonstrations
Friday, Oct 15th
ACES 3.408
4:00 PM
Anyone interested in seeing an informal demonstration of software developed
through an NSF grant on Visualizing the Tree of Life is invited to attend
a session in ACES 3.408 at 4 PM on Friday, 14 October. Programs include
Tree Set Visualization (for visualizing tree space occupied by large
sets of phylogenetic solutions), TreeJuxtaposer (for visualizing and
comparing large sets of trees), SequenceJuxaposer (for comparing aligned
sets of sequences), and a program for morphology visualization. Informal
presentations will be made by Nina Amenta, Katherine St. John, and Tamara
Munzner.

Computational Clusters for Higher
Education Scientific Research
Monday, Feburary 2
ICES Seminar Room
6.304 ACES Building
The presentation will be made twice, once in the morning
and once in the afternoon.
10:00AM - 11:30AM
2:00PM - 3:30PM
Guest Speaker:Matt MacInnis, Higher Ed Scientific Research
Market Manager for Apple Computer
Agenda: Matt MacInnis, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon
University and currently employed by
Apple to develop products and marketing for Higher Education Scientific
Research customers, will be at The University of Texas on Monday, February
2. Matt will conduct a short presentation on Computational Clusters
for Higher Education Research. He will also discuss Apple's recent announcements
for the science and research markets and then conduct a group discussion
on the needs of the Sci/Tech communities at UT.

Phylocluster Orientation
Subject: Introduction to Phylocluster
When: Friday, April 18, 2003
Time: 2:30 - 4:00
Place: ACES 3.408
Information: Phylocluster is a 8 node cluster provided by the IGERT
grant that is intended to be used mainly for computational work directly
related to phylogeny. Phylocluster is available to members of the Center
for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics with preference given to
those directly supported through the IGERT program. This event will
cover basic cluster usage including accessing the cluster, scheduling
jobs as well as some basic Unix concepts.
